Working at a bar

leave a comment »

So the last thing I thought I would be doing with my life at 33 was  working as a bouncer in a bar.    Not to say that it’s not rewarding, but there are days when I could do without the cigarette smoke and the drunks.    The one thing I will say…nay EXCLAIM:  today I am grateful to have a job, regardless of what it may be.

On a side note…     Who needs comedy central when you have 250 drunk rednecks to watch?

Sleep Schedules

leave a comment »

So for most of the world, we got to bed at roughly the same time, wake up at roughly the same time and life goes on.   This makes sense since we as human beings are creatures of habit.    For the last little while I have been getting up around 1 PM and going to bed around 6 am.  7 hours of sleep is just about perfect.  But something happened last night that I just can’t explain.  I got very tired around…. 7 pm.  and so I had a nap.   That nap lasted till 3:30 am.  So at 3:30 am I woke up and I have a sneaking suspicion that my sleep cycle has begun a change in evolution.   I really don’t care when it is…I would just like to maintain a sense of normality in my sleeping habit.

Turns out….

It never ceases to amaze me the things we realize, and the manner in which it happens.    It’s like watching Wylie Coyote getting the light bulb turning on over his head.    When you have a hobby, or play sports, or in my case a musical instrument…. Your friends and family are more than likely going to tell you you do well even if you suck.  It’s that family support thing.   While my family is known for saying what they think, family or not… It’s always there in the back of your mind.  Are they saying they like it just because they are my family and don’t want to be hurtful?

Well Day before yesterday a VERY attractive young woman was walking by while I was playing the 12 string outside.  She stopped and listened for a few minutes and then said I play beautifully.  Then asked if I could do another.  So I did.  Again she expressed enjoyment.   So turns out, I must at least be ok, because a perfect stranger got some enjoyment out of it.

p.s.  On the bonus side…. I got her phone # out of it.

Just one of those things I guess….

There are several things in life that really move you.  It could be a plate of what grandmother used to make when you were a kid, a place or even a song.   Music has such a profound effect on me, and the folks that know me can attest to this.  I have heard this song many times, and it really hit me today for some unexplained reason.

I hope the owners don’t go all copyright happy, I am just getting the music out there, and I hope it brings you the same enjoyment it brings me.

It amazes me the things we reflect on.   To some it’s past periods of wealth, happiness, and popularity.  To some it’s a lost love.   We can choose to look back the same way we look forward.  Is the glass half empty or half full?    Well for me it’s half full.    There are times I have enjoyed with many folks very dear to me that will never come around again.. for those people are gone now.   While this is sad, I choose to look back at these times and think that my life was enriched, and I am a better person for having known them.

With the human lifespan ever approaching 100,  I look back on the first 1/3 of my life.    I see a lot of bad choices, wrong decisions, and hurt.  But I see a lot of good as well.   How we approach our future depends on the lessons we have learned in our past.  For if we fail to learn from history, our own personal history included…..  We are doomed to relive it.

So looking forward, I think I have made a few choices that are good ones.  Just a few are

#1  Never miss an opportunity to let those I care about know what they mean to me.

#2  Never take for granted the presence of family, because they won’t be around forever.

#3  Never miss an opportunity to have a little fun, because life is serious enough without my help.

#4  Make the time for what’s important, not just when it’s convenient.

This is by no means a comprehensive list, but I think it’s a good place to start.

Don’t Mess With Texas

h/t to Hippie Joe for this one.

Warning… Prairie faeries and Yankees may find this disturbing and offensive, so continue reading at your own risk.

Texas Border Enforcement

What could happen if you screw with a TEXAS law enforcement officer – rather graphic….

Living on the border, TEXANS are all familiar with criminals coming from Mexican gangs.  In this situation, three armed felons crossed the TEXAS sovereign border, and tried to rob an off duty El Paso, TEXAS police officer dressed in civilian clothes while he stood in front of a bank.  The plan was for two of them to grab his backpack and toss it to an accomplice on a stolen motorcycle.

However, this well prepared El Paso Police Officer shot them ALL, managing to kill 2 immediately.

The 3rd thug was shot in both arms and bled to death before help arrived.

Do you realize how much this TEXAN saved the US taxpayer by not having to prosecute these worthless thugs?

Arrest and detention for 1 night = -$6,000

Transportation for deportation back to Mexico the next day = -$1,000

Air time for Obama to apologize in 30 min speech = -$25,000,000

Three .45 rounds = $.75

Auction 1 slightly used but scratched motorcycle = $2,500

Taxpayer savings = $25,009500.25

Not bad, not bad at all!

They Picked The Wrong Man to Rob – Too Bad for them ALL! – only in TEXAS!!

God Bless TEXANS!
